Blurring the lines between art and chocolate, UK chocolatier Paul A Young has designed an Easter collection that reflects the spring season and encourages consumers to eat with their eyes.
Young was inspired by the impressionist artist Monet to create a collection with a decorative palette of layered spring colours and shimmers – think dappled light and hand-painted impasto decoration.
Here are some highlights from the collection:
Limited edition eggs
Made from Guittard Chocolate’s 65% Single Origin Peruvian variety, Young has hand applied each limited edition egg himself with gold, silver and bronze. The egg will also be accompanied by a bespoke nine piece box of limited edition 65% Peruvian caramel truffles.
Using Guittard Chocolate and combining 72% dark and 38% milk and white chocolate, the eggs have shimmering touches of green, pink and blue edible metallic decoration. However, there is a secret treat hiding inside – a clutch of hidden half chocolate dark, milk or white chocolate chicks that are each speckled with colourful sprinkles.
Salted caramel hen’s eggs
Known as the best ever soft boiled egg experience, according to the brand, the ‘yolk’ is Young’s multi-award winning Sea Salted Caramel. This year, it will be hand painted in the same style as Young’s wider Easter collection.
The sprinkled eggs
There’s the medium half egg that uses Guittard 72% chocolate, which is filled with six of Young’s salted caramel eggs and adorned with bright hundreds and thousands. There’s also the sprinkle topped small half egg – people can tuck into the chocolate shell and save its two chocolate chick inhabitants for later that afternoon.
Milk and dark chocolate bunnies are made from Guittard 38% milk chocolate or Guittard 72% Onyx dark chocolate. This year the bunnies are decorated yellow (milk bunny) and green (dark chocolate bunny) and come with chocolate pearls.
Meanwhile, the caramel lovers can choose a Billi Bunny, filled with a vanilla caramel.
Alternatively, there’s a box of caramelised solid chocolate chicks or the Gulls’ & Quails’ Eggs box to tuck into the Sea Salted Caramel and Praline crunchy coated speckled eggs.
Unusual flavours are certainly coming out to play like goats cheese; Cornish smoked sea salt and black pepper; yuzu; soy and wasabi; and burnt butter sourdough caramel.
Other new chocolates in the collection include FireTree triple dark chocolate; oat milk latte; apricot; toasted pine nut and amaretti; orange and rosemary mascarpone cheesecake; ginger beer; and Cornish sea salted toasted almond.
Easter egg hunt
Young also created an Easter Egg Hunt Kit for all the family to enjoy. This contains a hollow chocolate Billi Bunny, a small Easter egg, a hen’s egg, three caramelised chocolate chicks and two each of Gulls’ and Quails’ eggs.
