How did we get here?

Through the former managing director of The Cinnamon Club, Rohit Chugh. He has two restaurants, with his first, Roti Chai, opening in Marylebone 2011, while the second includes a toddy shop bar called Chai Ki, which arrived in Canary Wharf in 2015.

Now he is making a move into the fast casual sector with the opening of Bambusa, his first cafe venue, which will predominantly offer takeaway dishes for breakfast and lunch.

What’s different about it?

It’s not your usual takeaway fare. The menu has an eclectic offering of breakfast and all-day dishes with global influences, but mainly inspired by Chugh’s travels and work over the last two years in Laos, Singapore, Japan and across Asia. Dishes have been described as home-style and will be based on recipes shared with Chugh by friends and family.

Bambusa features a coffee and pastry counter at the front of the cafe and a separate counter for customers to build their own breakfast and lunch-to-go.

It is serving up its own Monsoon Masala house blend with fresh pastries from London bakeries, such as east London’s Galeta. Food and drink will also be served in sustainable sugarcane packaging.

Not content on just doing in-house takeaway, there are plans later in the year to provide a delivery service for offices and residents in the surrounding area.
