Chef’s Choice Awards

Recognising foodservice excellence, the accolades highlight product innovation across a broad range of categories.

From snacks to soups, condiments to cakes, the Chef’s Choice Awards aims to celebrate the most innovative ready-to-use products in the foodservice sector. Organised by William Reed Business Media (home of Food Spark, as well as titles like Restaurant, The Grocer and Food Manufacture), it brings together professionals from the hospitality, wholesale and food manufacturing industries.

“Winning one of these awards is proven to re-energise sales of existing products and deliver enhanced market visibility to new lines. Entrants will also have the opportunity to get products recognised and profiled in William Reed’s market-leading titles,” says event director Sonia Young.

How does it work?

Contestants can enter frozen, fresh, chilled and ambient products across a total of 26 different categories. These products are then judged by a panel of food technologists, chefs, culinary research and development managers, as well as end users such as food developers and executive chefs working for national pub and restaurant chains.

The products are prepared in a professional kitchen – following the recommended preparation and portion guidance – by development chefs from Food Innovation Solutions, who with Good Sense Research are event partners.

These are then served to judges, who score the items based on innovation, quality, consistency, taste and texture. Entries are also critiqued on ease and speed of preparation.

Winners will be announced at the Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard, London, on March 5, 2019.

What are the categories?

Vegan/plant-based and chocolate are new categories this year, joining the existing list:

  • Products sold as free-from
  • Rice, pasta, grains
  • Savoury pies and flans

  • Sweet and savoury sauces
  • Sweet cakes and biscuits

How do I get involved?

Submissions are being accepted until November 12. Companies with a turnover of less than £5m can enter for £285 plus VAT, while businesses with a turnover of £5m or more can participate for £475 plus VAT.
