About Me:
I've kind of fallen off the nutrition wagon and am looking to find new tips and support to get back on the right track. I've been motivated by eating healthy before and have seen major results, I know I can do it again.

Finding the Balance/Shift Work

Let me start by saying I am easily down 2 lbs. this week. Aside from my regular attendance at the gym, I have made a big overhaul with my eating. I've mainly been exercising portion control, and not snacking on anything too heavy right before bed. I haven't been well-behaved as far as eating 100% healthy, but when I did splurge, I made sure I only had a serving, and I also made sure that I made healthier choices during the day, and certainly the day after. I've been eating more fruit and veggies… Continue

Bring on the Veggies

It's day two of my 'eat more vegetables' diet. So far so good. Now that I'm conscious of getting my proper serving, it's easy to add to a dish or serve on the side. Yesterday afternoon I added a ton of mushrooms and onions to my eggs, I took a big bag of raw veggies and low-fat dip (one part salsa, one part fat-free sour cream) to work, and I added 2 cups of peas to the tuna casserole I made. I also started taking my multi-vitamin again. For whatever reason I hadn't been taking it. How hard is i… Continue

Sunday Grocery List

Sunday, the dreaded grocery shopping day. I normally buy a ton of fruit and veggies, and I normally compost a ton of uneaten fruit and veggies at the end of the week. This time, I've decided to change my approach. I'm only going to buy the produce that inspires me. If I see that the apples look beautiful, or the spinach looks crisp, then it will be mine. I've also made a little daily meal plan to help cut down on all the uneccessary food that I pick up and don't use. I know this is nothing new,… Continue

Snacky Boyfriend

I'm pretty proud of myself. This week has been fairly successful in regards to getting myself back on track after about a month or so of falling into junk food hell. I've been eating more vegetables, cutting down my portions, and genuinely judging my hunger on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being boredom and 10 being I NEED TO EAT BEFORE I PASS OUT! I could still be making healthier choices. I could still be eating smaller portions. I certainly should be cutting out my daily glass of wine. Baby steps...… Continue

A fresh start

So my plans to take it easy on the serving sizes yesterday just didn't happen. I managed to stuff my face full of the goods, drink a bottle of wine, and have a serving of desert. OK. Fine. It happened. Moving on. The one thing I've learned about myself is that if I don't start my day off with a balanced breakfast, I really get munchy late at night. Though food was the last thing on my mind when I awoke, I made myself some organic oatmeal with a sprinkle of crushed walnuts and a hand full of rasp… Continue

How are things going? Are you struggling at all or are things going smoothly?

How's the healthy living going? I've fallen of the healthy train a few times this week. However, somehow I've still managed to lose weight...go figure. I think it's the gorgeous weather and yard work that are helping me shed weight. I'm joining a 5 week bootcamp at the end of May too. I'm hoping that it will help get rid of the stubborn weight that always hangs on towards the end.

Good idea on the workout videos! That way I can't use the excuse "I missed the gym"!

My week has been o.k...the weekend was a great gym weekend and a bad food one and the rest of this week I've been eating really well....and not working out. No balance at all. I had two glasses of wine yesterday too:) I'm trying the smoothie thing this weekend for breakfast. My hubby thought he'd like to try too. I'm in the process of finding a good recipe...Oh did I mention I gained 5 pounds this week?!! Horrible. I don't feel like I have (my clothes fit the same), but the scale does not lie. Sadly, I'm hating the gym right now too. I can totally relate. Good luck.

Sometimes when I have high hopes of eating all of the produce that I bought and it's still sitting in the crisper or the basket (slowly getting riper and riper), I cut it all up and mix it up in either a salad (fruit), or smoothy. Or use up all your veggies by cutting them all in pretty pencil thin shapes or cubes and then I toss and bake them in the oven. It prevents me from wasting and then I feel satisfied. Although sadly, I never eat leftovers (unless it's pizza). I was pretty good at the gym this weekend...but it never lasts. I had two drinks last night too...which doesn't help the weightloss. Hang in there, and good luck tonight! I think that we ate all of the chocolate lying around yesterday so I am safe!

It's a process :)
When you throw yourself in to something and change everything at once, it is NEVER sustainable. Just be gentle with yourself and slowly start making changes.

It certainly sounds like you could use a cleanse. With your history of yeast infections and your current food cravings It would be my guess that you'd benefit from a Candida cleanse. However, it's not an easy one to just jump into with no help. You risk throwing yourself out of balance and to end up in a major binge :( Try to get your blood sugar under control a bit first with those recommendations I made on your last blog post, and drink loads of water, cut down on coffee (if you drink it) and alcohol. That in itself will be cleansing :)

sounds good. I was just thinking about trying to eliminate junk food and sugar this week (starting today)...
I'm still off for the long weekend, and I've been too indulgent this Easter. Are you exercising too?

That would explain your manic cravings too. That yeast needs to eat.....and what does it eat? Sugar! You may not be feeding yourself, but rather the little yeasties in you gut :) Oh....and there is a huge IBS/yeast connection
