About Me:
I am a holistic nutritionist from Toronto, Ontario. Nutrition is my passion and I plan on solving the health problems of the world through convincing people to eat better, manage stress and to reduce toxic load! I have my own practice, FoodSpark Nutrition, and am aiming to specialize in pediatrics as well as mental health nutrition. In the near future I plan to conduct workshops centered around dietary intervention for learning disabilities. Currently I coordinate the nutrition program at my daughter's school, John English J.M.S. which I find extremely rewarding.
I am married and have 2 children. My favourite activities include spending time with my family, running, listening to and making music, reading, writing, spending time in Muskoka, golfing, cooking great food and drinking fine wine.

Welcome to FoodSpark!

My goal for FoodSpark is to provide it's members with a place to network, ask questions, answer questions, research topics of interest and speak their minds.

John English J.M.S. Nutrition Program

Hi everyone, It's been awhile since I've made a post or been an active presence on the site. I've been really busy with a project and I thought I would share some good news. For the past couple of months myself, as well as a few other key people (some of whom are FoodSpark members), have been working hard on starting a nutrition program for my daughter's school, John English J.M.S. We will start our pilot project by serving a healthy, buffet style lunch one day a week starting this Friday! Lunc… Continue

Nutrition and Mental Health Part I

This is one of my very favorite topics. I have been absolutely astounded by the difference that good nutrition can make in the mental health of people of all ages. Because the body and mind are so closely connected, what we put into our body has a direct affect on how w… Continue

Chocolate For Dental Health

According to scientists at Japan's Osaka University, chocolate could help prevent tooth decay. Apparently there is an antibacterial agent in the husks of cocoa beans that kills the bacteria responsible for tooth decay. But before you go jumping on the chocolate for den… Continue

The Blessed Symptom

Pathology is always preceded by symptoms. In many cases people have symptoms for many years before actual disease sets in. A symptom is a WARNING signal from your body that something is out of balance. This should be your queue to get help. By going to a nutritionist a… Continue

CDC: Flu season worst in 4 years; vaccine didn't work well

It seems that flu shot vaccinations don't protect against strains of flu that vary slightly from one another. So unless they predict the EXACT strain that's circulating from year to year, people are being vaccinated for naught. And the risks? They tax their immune syste… Continue

What Do You Think?

I just finished a marvelous 2 week vacation down in sunny Florida. Unfortunately, while I was away I abandoned my goal of maintaining the hypoallergenic diet that I had been on for a month prior. I'm sure if I wrote out the very long list of foods that I should have bee… Continue

Candida The Ugly

Yeast is a permanent resident in our bodies. This in itself is not problematic, in fact yeast is beneficial to us, but Candida problems occur when the beneficial yeast form of Candida Albicans is not kept in check by the body’s own helpful bacteria. It then overpopulates the intestines and mutates into its fungal form. This can occur due to poor diet, lowered immunity, overuse of antibiotics and use of oral contraceptives, steroids or antacids. As the fungus grows out of balance it is said to pr… Continue

Thanks Cindy,
I love this site, it's great to have a place similar to to the other social networking site that focuses completely on health and nutrition. I really like several of the features and the blog option. Your husband did a great job.

No problem...it was from Applause. I can't remember how much it was...sorry. I'm sure it couldn't have been that much (maybe $20)? Anyway, you'd have to see them first I guess to see if they are what you are looking for...too bad they don't have containers inside. The lunch box your friend imports sounds really nice.
This one is pvc, lead and phthalate free. It's made by Crocodile Creek.

Hi Cindy!

We've recorded 20 episodes of Vitamin Junkeys so far, and have released 12. Our goal is to help educate people on Alternative Therapies and a natural approach to health. I've been on my personal journey for the last 6 years and I have learned so much, and yet I know that there is still so much more to learn!

I really think that it's through sharing and helping others that we help ourselves the most.

The most recent thing I took on was trying a raw diet for a week. It's interesting how each time I try something new, there's always something from that experience I carry forward.

Oh lol so you have to put yourself through the "torture" for 3 weeks all over again LOL. Oh well. For now I can say I am starting to see/feel some improvement already and it's only been 2 days...... I hope this really helps me clear up! We can compare notes if you get back on it in early September, we'll be going through it at the same time...

So far so good, but it's only been 1.5 days. LOL It's not fun but I'm taking comfort in knowing I'm treating my poor tummy (etc) well and letting it heal from over a year of turmoil with the constipation and all. I think this gentler approach (rather than doing cleanses and high fibre and supplements to try to "force" it to clean up) is probably just what it needs to recover and heal and get back to normal. So, while I miss my coffee and wheat and bananas and tomatoes and strawberries and chocolate... well, it's not forever and I feel good knowing I'm doing something good for myself :o) Countdown to cruise is on (12 days) and I hope by then that I'll see some improvement (before I go mess it all up again with alcohol and cruise food!!! haha). Thanks for checking in! I should post an update on my blog page...

Hi Cindy,

Thanks. I'm excited to be amongst you all. I just saw your blog and looking forward to reading it. I too believe that nutrition also affects mental health. Okay, later.
