About Me:
I'm attempting to lose tons of weight and ween myself off artificial sweeteners as well as sugar. I LOVE dairy but am thinking it is not so healthy and am trying to learn recipes and ways of eating that are healthy but do not require fake sugars, dairy, processed white flours or for that matter a lot of starchy things. Also, I like soy but heard bad things about it for the thyroid so am trying to stay away from it too.

Experiencing Shirataki Noodles (gluten free)and Other Firsts

OK so I got serious today. I gave away 2 gallons of Horizon organic milk...anyone who buys milk knows that was costly! Gave away the mound of regular spaghetti pasta and bags of pinto beans and my beloved yogurt! Yesterday I had a celebration to say good bye to things I think I will miss...like yogurt, cheesecake, jellyroll, Subway sandwhich...I'd have had ice-cream but was too full and feeling pretty ill. I did that on purpose...making myself ill, that is. I wanted my last experience of my SAD… Continue

Soy Milk as Dairy Replacement? Shirataki Noodles for Wheat Free Diets

http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/soy_milkcheese.html Hmm ok so in the effort of trying to go dairy free many people go for soy milk. I like soy but have been hearing more and more info about why it might not be so great. First, I've heard that it causes problems with nutrient intake. It can harm the thyroid. The product isn't really natural but a processed food and when I go to buy soy milk it always has sugar in it of some form. I am trying to stay clear of sugars. Don't get me wrong. I like soy… Continue

STARTING THE ANTIINFLAMMATORY DIET OF DR ASA ANDREWS

I just found a link to a site that I am pretty excited I found. Here it is: http://www.godairyfree.org/ I'm kinda new at blogging. Is it a diary? A journal? Not sure. I guess i will write about trying to go from being a typical SAD eater to eating no-dairy, no-wheat or processed white flours and for a time grains in general, no sugar, no fake sugars and also how to deal with stress through stretching and prayer and exercise. I'm 40, 5'5" and 244. I've been trying for the last couple of days to… Continue

Sorry, I never made it to the circular table of Japanese food at Solby's. I will try again tomorrow. Tourists had invaded Parry Sound and the store was packed. I did well shopping though besides not being able to look for the noodles. I will send you the recipe for the pasta salad tomorrow...it's a good Spring dish.

It's "Mrs Leeper's since 1927, organic corn elbows/spaghetti,rotini(there may be others)". It's wheat-free,gluten-free..the ingredients on the back just say Organic corn flour. It's made in Italy. It's not that expensive and pretty tasty. I make a really nice cold mexican pasta salad with them.

Hi,
I've used ground almonds...and I've read that there is a cookbook out there that's been getting a bit of airplay using only almond flour as a substitute. I will look for the title for you if you like...I don't have access to an asian food market unless I drive to the city. I live in a rural area with limited ingredients for a lot of international foods. However, there is a little japanese section at Solby's. I'm going there later today so I will check. I doubt they'll have them but you never know. Good luck with the anti-inflammatory diet. I don't know anything about it...but it doesn't hurt to experiment a little. Good luck.

That sounds really good :)
A good whole foods diet is always the best and most gentle way to improve your health.
I posted a table of artificial sweeteners and their side effects awhile back. Saccharin among others is on the list. Just do a search on "artificial sweeteners" in the site search directory. Or you could go through the blog archives to find it. It's called "Sweet Danger".

Milk is okay if you can tolerate it. Unfortunately most people have some degree of sensitivity to milk and dairy foods. The best way to know is to take it out of your diet for about three weeks.......when you reintroduce it look for any symptoms ranging from bloating, gas, cough, nasal stuffiness, headaches, ezcema, mood swings.....really the symptoms can be almost anything. If you feel fine then you're probably okay to continue with dairy products! I always suggest people be moderate though, because when you consume a lot of any one food it can always lead to the developements of allergies/sensitivities.
On soy......I'm not a huge fan, but like evrything else I think it can be okay in moderation. It's certainly not the super food it's cracked up to be though. My biggest problem with it is that most soy is genetically modified. I think the number is around 90%. It, like milk, is also a highly allergenic food and can also mimic estrogen in the body which can create problems for some people.
Hope that helps!
