Hi everyone,
I'm wondering about cleanses that don't require purchasing really expensive pills and juices. Is there a way to naturally and safely target sepcific areas (kidneys, liver, colon, etc) without having to buy into a specific brand??
For sure! Are you okay with raw fruits and veg....or do you still need to cook them? Are you gluten and dairy free? Without doing a complete work-up and knowing specifically what issues (Candida, blood sugar, allergies....), I wouldn't want to suggest anything that could stress your body too much.
A really gentle way of cleansing is to move to a whole foods diet....mostly fruits and veg, some whole grains and non-animal protein sources (nuts, seeds, legumes). No refined sugars and in general stay away from other common allergens (wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, corn, beef, pork) is recommended. Wake up and have some warm water with half a fresh lemon squeezed into it. Wait until mid morning to have a light breakfast....generally eat light and not past 7:00 in the evening. Tonnes of water....at least 10 glasses. You could also do things like dry skin brushing, hot and cold showers, castor oil packs to help detoxify.......give me a shout for clarification on these if you want. Using certain herbs and spices can be really beneficial for specific ailments and concerns too. For example, garlic is awesome as an anti-fungal if you think Candida yeast might be a problem.
Although you'll probably feel kind of crappy for the first couple of days it's a good indication that you're clearing out some toxins. Follow this plan for a few weeks and you should start feeling pretty good :)
Thanks Cindy - I am good with raw fruits and veggies now, so I'll give it a go. It's pretty similar to the diet that my naturopath put me on...
2 1/2 weeks until my next surgery, and I'm planning to go in as healthy and strong as possible!
A friend of mine who is a nutritionist and a memeber of this site does some specializing in pre and post op. nutrition. I'll send her a message and ask if there is anything food wise that you can do to prepare. I think she typically recommends specific supplements, but we can always translate those to foods!
basic vegetable juice cleanses seem to work, but shouldn't be done for long periods of time. a juicer is required for this one as pasteurized bottled juices don't give you the same benefits. i'd recommend not doing too much carrot and beet juicing, as they're a bit high in sugar. juice mainly vegetables, with them. lots of info online about juice cleansing.
i know someone who loves the master cleanse too. look that up. she's lost lots of weight and feels better afterwards.
remember, everyone reacts different on cleanses as we're all different. good luck!
Thanks for your input... I've been doing the raw foods diet that Cindy suggested (with the exception of the 2 or 3 marshamallow bunnies this morning!!), and I feel so much better already. I don't have a juicer, what about pureeing?? I know it's not the same thing, but would it do in a pinch?? I'll look up the master cleanse for sure...
Although supplementation can play a vital role, a huge part is eating a variety of organic fruits and vegtables and getting adequate fiber and pure water intake.
master cleanse...for certain. I do this at least once a month for a few days, after holidays, or when I have an overindulgent weekend..which seems to be often in the summer with all the BBQs, weddings, and graduation parties. It is very simple....you basically drink lemon water....all day.....for as many days as you wish. Some people do it for weeks....my max is about 4 days. You will feel great and a bonus is loss of excess water weight.
Filtered water
organic lemons
Organic maple syrup
dash of cayenne pepper
Use a water bottle if you wish or a container (quart size) Scrub and slice about 1 and a -1/2 lemons, squeeze juice into bottle and drop in the slices. Pour in about 1/2 teaspoon of ,maple syrup (this is to keep your blood sugar levels balanced) and a dash of cayenne pepper (to boost your metabolism). Pur water over all to the top, cover and shake. Sip this all day long. You can heat it too, which really brings out the flavor.
After the 2nd day...you will feel terrific and full of energy.
When you are ready to resume eating again, start out slowly...adding vegetable broth, tofu, and gentle foods to your diet!
