This winter I have been plagued with a wide assortment of viruses and bacterial infections. Tis the season…it’s true. But one would think that my immune system should be good and strong considering my attention to health and nutrition…yes?

I will admit that I have a weakness for sweets and red wine and while I do partake once or twice a week in a treat, I eat “by the book” most of the time. I have an arsenal of supplements and herbs that I take preventatively, mostly by supporting my immune system, and I drink loads of water. Oh….and I wash my hands neurotically. So where am I going wrong you might ask? Well, a few nights ago I watched a documentary which I’m sure most of you have heard of by now. It’s called The Secret. While on first glance the film seemed “cheesy” and like it was trying to sell me a product, the message was really quite profound and has given me a new and much needed perspective on my health dilemma. And it wasn’t trying to sell a product….just the premise of the film which is the Law of Attraction.

If you understand the Law of Attraction, or “like attracts like”, it makes sense that if you spend your time trying not to get sick you will only be attracting sickness into your life. In my case this is exactly true. I spend a lot of time focusing on preventing illness and also spend a lot of time sick in bed! I’m attracting it by trying to prevent it. I need to take my focus off of illness and put my energy into maintaining health. In theory, this shift in focus should attract good health to me. Realizing old habits die hard and it may take some time, I am determined that I am going to change the way I think about health. No more playing defense! I’ll get back to you on how that works for me!

I can't agree more. It can be a real challenge to shift some of those perspectives, and to refocus on the positive instead of the lack. I am always working on losing weight. Been successful to unload 60 out of about 95 pounds of excess so far but it's been SLOW because I'm not that consistent with my diet. I can go from eating insanely healthfully to quite the opposite. Bad habits die hard... but more so, I think perhaps a lot of how strongly my body seems to cling to these pounds is that I am focused on how frustrated I am about still being overweight. If I could more consistently stay focused on achieving optimal health and energy, my eating habits would probably be a lot more consistent and the weight would drop. Thank you for the reminder... Mind-Body-Spirit - harness the power of all three and you will be unstoppable!

How are you doing with your change of perspective?

Hi Cindy,

Congratulations. This looks fabulous. You go girl. Well done.

I was wanting to ask your permission to use this post on my upcoming abundant health carnival. I only select five top articles but the submissions were poor.

It should give you good traffic.

Let me know if this is OK. The article will go up in the next few days.

Peace, love and chocolate

The Law of Attraction, it seems so trendy but I am sure it is the real deal. I have lots of stories of how it works in my life. Another great read is A New Earth, Oprah has been pushing the book and is starting an online 10 week class, free to register on her web site. I am reading the book, I am sure you will get a lot out of it.

Thanks......
Yes, the kids are germ factories, however, if my immune system is good and strong I should be able to remain healthy regardless.
You're totally right about stress....it's a HUGE factor! Wow....Andy, I didn't realize you had such a holistic view on health. That's great :)

I think the reason get sick more often this winter is because you are exposed to a lot of germs and viruses from all the kids in your house. Emma goes to school where she is exposed to drooling germ bombs and then she comes home and drops all her new germ friends all over the house and you. Good luck with the new way of thinking about illness, I think you are on the right track.
Last winter when everyone around me was getting sick I began to take drugs and used hand sanitizer and sure enough I was sick within a few days.....the more you think about getting sick the better your chances of getting sick are.
My suggestion to help stay healthy is to drink lots of water. Flush out all the nasty little bugs.
Also Stress is a huge factor. Try and keep stess in check, if you are feeling totally stressed out try and make some time for yourself and go for a long hard run, it always helps me.
Check out a book called the THRIVE DIET, cool ideas in this book

Good Luck
