Autism an Autoimmune Disease?

I was just reading through some of the latest posts on one of my yahoo groups and came across an interesting one on fevers and Autism. There are many people who notice that when their autistic children have fevers they become suddenly more verbal, have better eye contact, less stimming and have an overall relief of symptoms. After doing a little research as to why this is, I discovered a whole Autism-autoimmune disorder theory. I have known for ages that there is a link with vaccines and Autism, particularly with thimerosal being a main cause as heavy metal toxicity, but this is different. Vaccines also tax the immature immune system of an infant, and can cause it to be come hyperactive and/or confused so that it begins to attack nerve cells in the brain. This is auto immunity. This is also the theory behind how vaccines may be a causal factor in the rise of allergies in children. Anyway, I think it's very interesting and worthwhile to do some reading about.
